Internships
The Site Stewardship Program has a thriving internship program that has been training environmental professionals for 13 years. We offer six-month to one-year internships in ecological restoration, outreach, and environmental education. Internships are competitive, and interns are compensated by a stipend of $100 dollars a week and provided housing in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. We also offer transportation to work sites, personalized training, and marketable work experience. - Help prioritize, plan, and oversee habitat restoration projects and volunteer workdays
- Conduct on-the-ground habitat restoration including invasive species control, fence construction, and revegetation
- Monitor restoration progress; collect, enter, and manage ecological data
- Help prepare summary reports and revise management plans
- Engage local community by leading interpretive hikes, creating interpretive materials, and corresponding with volunteers
Outreach Internships
- Organize and facilitate Saturday drop-in volunteer programs
- Recruit, coordinate, and retain volunteers and manage volunteer participation records
- Assist with development, layout, editing, and distribution of bi-monthly Site Stewardship newsletter
- Prepare educational materials, outreach flyers, and press releases to promote participation in Site Stewardship Program activities
- Create and distribute flyers and press releases for outreach and volunteer recruitment
- Assist in the development of environmental education programs with local schools
- Assist with field restoration activities at each of the Stewardship Sites
Education Internship
- Perform leadership roles in high school and middle school environmental education programs
- Plan workdays and activities for inner-city middle school programs and prepare educational materials
- Assist with workdays at a high school native plant nursery
- Participate in and assist with weekly Site Stewardship restoration workdays
- Organize and plan special student recognition events
- Assist with field restoration activities at each of the Stewardship Sites
